The geographical region of EMRIC

The Euregion Meuse-Rhine (EMR) is an area of about 10.000 km2 with 4 milion inhabitants. The EMR is a geographical area, where the borders of Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands meet. Characteristic for the EMR is the three languages that are spoken and the cultures that differ per region. Within the geogrpahical area of the EMR, the EMRIC collaboration can be found, consisting of the Veiligheidsregio Zuid-Limburg (NL), Stad Aken (DE), Städteregion Aken (DE), Kreis Heinsberg (DE), Provincie Limburg (BE) and Provincie Luik (BE) including the German speaking community of Belgium. In some parts of the EMR assistance can be provided more quickly by services from neighbouring regions than by own services. Cross-border collaboration between emergency services is therefore sel-evident within this region. About 1200 times a year, assistance is requested from abroad (ambulance and fire services). The total area in which the EMRIC collaboration works can be found in the map below:

This, however, does not mean that the EMRIC collaboration does not collaborate with other regiions and services that are not situated within the EMR. An overviw of the services with which the EMRIC collaboration works can be found here
