Cross-border high-angle rescue exercise
The specialised high-angle rescue teams of the Kelmis Fire Service and the Aachen Fire Service trained together in Hergenrath at the end of July. The joint training day strengthened both technical expertise and cross-border cooperation in rescue operations.
On Friday, 31 July 2026, a joint training day took place in Hergenrath (Belgium), bringing together the GRIMP special rescue unit of the Kelmis Fire Service and the Special Rescue Group (SRG) of the Aachen Fire Service.
The focus was on two demanding exercises involving complex rope rescue techniques. The main objective was to promote an intensive exchange of experience in specialised rescue operations at height and from depth.
Participants included emergency responders from the DG Emergency Zone in Kelmis and colleagues from the Aachen Fire Service. Joint training activities like these not only strengthen technical expertise but also enhance cross-border cooperation during emergency response operations.
